The City of Hobart is committed to providing young people from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences with opportunities to thrive, be heard, and reach their aspirations.
To support this objective, the City of Hobart’s Youth Arts and Recreation Centre will host the inaugural YARC Fest and YARC Market to celebrate Youth Week 2024.
These events will take place on Saturday, 13 April and are focused on the theme “Community Connection: Our Community, Our Voice.”
YARC Fest is a vibrant celebration of youth creativity and talent.
It is designed by youth, for youth, offering a safe, fun, and engaging space for individuals aged 12-25.
The event features an eclectic lineup of artists, showcasing the diverse talents within our community.
From graphic design to live performances, YARC Fest aims to expand awareness of Youth ARC while providing young makers and performers with opportunities to showcase and monetize their creative talents.
City of Hobart Youth Programs Team Leader Dougal McLauchlan said: “YARC Fest exemplifies the City of Hobart’s commitment to nurturing the creativity and talent of our young people.
“This event not only celebrates youth culture but also promotes inclusivity and community engagement.”
YARC Fest organiser Nikita Soetekouw said she was excited to be part of this youth-based event.
“YARC is about bringing happiness, joy, and freedom to Hobart,” Ms Soetekouw said.
“Making the best memories in the best way and we hope to give you all a day you will never forget.”
In addition to YARC Fest, Youth ARC will host the YARC Market, a free, family-friendly event celebrating the creativity of young makers aged 12-25.
With up to 20 young vendors selling handmade items, the market promises a diverse array of artistic offerings.
Attendees can also enjoy various activities, including demonstrations, a photo booth, live broadcasts, and an interactive art mural designed by Youth ARC participant Taly Hamilton.
Hobart’s Welcoming & Inclusive City Portfolio Chair Cr Dr Zelinda Sherlock said such events were important in fostering community connections and giving young people a safe, social, creative outlet.
“YARC Market provides a platform for young artists to showcase their talents and connect with the wider community,” Cr Dr Sherlock said.
“By supporting these young entrepreneurs, we are building a more inclusive and vibrant city.”
The day culminates with YARC Live, offering young artists the opportunity to perform in a supportive and inclusive environment.
From 6pm to 10pm, attendees can enjoy live music performances by local talents including Cyberswitch, Grace Chia, Deli, Legal Noise, Nina Benzon, and Off Put.
Both YARC Fest and YARC Market are drug and alcohol-free events, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
