The City of Hobart has announced the return of our annual Harmony Week celebration, Together Festival 2024.
This year’s event promises to be our most vibrant and inclusive yet, offering a plethora of exciting activities and performances for the whole community to enjoy.
Scheduled to take place on Thursday, 21 March 2024, from 10am to 6pm, Together Festival 2024 will coincide with the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, amplifying the message of unity and cultural diversity.
Hobart Welcoming and Inclusive City Portfolio Chair Cr Dr Zelinda Sherlock said, “Together Festival 2024 represents the heart of Hobart – a city that embraces diversity and fosters inclusivity.
“It’s an opportunity for all members of our community to come together, celebrate our differences, and strengthen the bonds that unite us.”
Equal Opportunity Tasmania Anti-Discrimination Commissioner Sarah Bolt will be delivering the keynote speech at Thursday’s festival.
“Respect, inclusion, equality, harmony and kindness are powerful words, but they do not drive themselves, all of us have a responsibility adopt the words as part of our every attitude and behaviour,” Ms Bolt said.
“If we can do that then collectively, we have the means to make Tasmania a place where everybody can safely go about their daily business free of discrimination and harassment.”
Cr Dr Sherlock said this was a significant event to honour.
“As the Welcoming and Inclusive City Portfolio Chair, I am proud to see our city hosting such a vibrant multicultural event,” Cr Dr Sherlock said.
“Together Festival 2024 highlights our commitment to creating an environment where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of their background.”
The festival’s jam-packed program includes a wide range of entertainment and activities suitable for all ages.
Attendees can look forward to face painting, origami heart-making, captivating storytelling by Libraries Tasmania, mesmerizing performances by Indonesian Magician Patrick Spencer (pictured), and the pulsating beats of Grace Chia & DJ, among many other attractions.
