The City of Perth last night committed almost $500,000* in event sponsorship grants in 2022, to light up the city.
The Brookfield Winter Lights – a spectacular of light-themed activities and entertainment in the CBD – is set for weeknights and weekends between 25 August and 4 September this year.
City funding of $70,000 will include $30,000 for the support and engagement of local artists impacted by COVID-19.
The Winter Lights event complements last weekend’s launch of Perth as the City of Light.
The Council voted to provide a $150,000 grant to the RSL’s Anzac Day commemorations – including the Dawn Service at King’s Park and the Gunfire Breakfast at Government House.
The Make Smoking History Targa West Rally is back in 2022, with the City set to commit $100,000 this year. The free four-day motor sport event is run throughout the metropolitan area and includes a ‘Show and Shine’ car display in Forrest Place and Murray Street, as well as a City of Perth Family Zone.
The City will provide $40,000 in sponsorship to this year’s popular HBF Run for a Reason.
City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said the City’s events calendar for 2022 had something for everyone.
“The City has a vision for Perth to be the events heart of our State and this funding helps us to bring that vision to a reality,” Lord Mayor Zempilas said.
“We hope to offer something for everyone, which is why we support such a diverse range of events throughout the year.
“We are the City of Light and that can be interpreted as vibrancy and energy and liveliness, and all that is brought about by events that bring the community together – just like last weekend’s drone show.”

- NAIDOC Week Perth Opening Ceremony – $35,000 (3 Jul 2022)
