The next chapter of the New Junction development in Midland’s city centre is set to commence.

Connecting the old Midland Town Centre with the newer Midland Gate Shopping Centre precinct, New Junction is the rejuvenation of 11 hectares of land into a series of high quality parks, open spaces and community facilities, as well as new living and business opportunities to meet the needs of all ages and abilities.

The development of New Junction is set to deliver up to $990m in total economic benefits to the broader Swan community, generate up to 4,000 new jobs, create 1,000 dwellings for new residents, and generate up to $2.2 billion in output contribution to the economy.

City of Swan Mayor David Lucas said the City will soon begin subdivision works for the eastern side of the New Junction precinct.

“The City of Swan is investing in revitalising the heart of Midland, and supporting the efforts of the State Government who continue to deliver a $1.5 billion government and private sector investment into redeveloping the nearby Midland Railway Workshops precinct,” he said.

“This is an exciting time for Midland and the City of Swan.

“We’ve made progress to develop New Junction since finalising the masterplan in 2018, including civil works and private development, and it’s now time to move forward with the next phase of investment.

“This includes the development of Residential Park, a green public space for future residents and the surrounding community to enjoy, complementing the fantastic Weeip Park.

“We have the support of our community to bring New Junction to life and we’re now going to make it happen.”

A key highlight of the New Junction precinct is Weeip Park, which features a kick-about lawn and terraced seating, play and recreational areas for children and teens, landscaping and special recognition of Midland’s history and heritage through public art and interpretive elements.

The City will release investment information once subdivision works are completed.
