The Gold Coast’s first asphalt pump track has opened at Pizzey Park today, becoming the largest in Australia.
The $1.7 million project covers a total area of 5500m2 with asphalt riding surfaces covering 2000m2, landscaping, seating and spectator areas.
The Pizzey Park Pump Track has been created for BMX and scooter riders, incorporating rollers, double jumps, berms and wall rides. It is now the largest pump track in the country surpassing the Gladstone Pump Track, which is 5000m2.
It is a welcomed addition to Pizzey Park’s existing world-class skate park which underwent a major extension in May 2022.
“Pizzey Park is our city’s prime destination for sports covering 60 hectares with world-class skate and BMX facilities, plus 25 sporting clubs, an aquatic centre, our largest rugby league club and Queensland’s largest tennis facility,” said Councillor Nick Marshall.
“The pump track is a fantastic addition to Pizzey Park and will create another training ground for future BMX and skateboarding champions to prepare for the Brisbane Olympics.
“Since the Pizzey Park Skate Park extension was completed, it has been incredibly busy with thousands of locals making the most of the world-class facility. We expect the same for the pump track,” Cr Marshall added.
The new pump track has a unique design with 50 jumps and three wall rides combining with rollers and berms.
Instead of pedalling, riders progress through the course by sustaining momentum by ‘pumping’ the rises and falls of the track, with highly skilled riders able to sustain momentum indefinitely.
The track design will allow for skill progression, allowing future generations to learn, gain confidence and continue developing up to an advanced level.
The track was designed by Queensland based company World Trail and received funding through the Queensland Government’s Tourism Experience Development Fund.
