The City has budgeted $161,000 for its Christmas program in 2019-20.
Decorations will be placed across central Geelong and 14 other suburbs in the municipality.
This includes Christmas trees in Ocean Grove, Geelong West, central Geelong, Highton,
Lara and Corio.
Other decorative features include small and large stars, flags, baubles, seat wraps, pole
wraps and wreaths.
In addition to this, we are introducing a new program called Christmas in the North.
This program will direct $60,000 towards festive celebrations in the northern suburbs,
including a new 6-metre tall tree that will be installed adjacent the Corio Library next week.
Investment has further been directed towards the City’s Floating Christmas Tree ($420,666)
and Central Geelong Marketing’s wide range of Christmas activities (60,000).
Central Geelong Marketing’s Christmas in Central Geelong Program includes giant 3D
artworks, augmented reality, neon installations, a pop-up Christmas tree forest and Christmas storytelling.
Across all programs, we invested a total of $623,755 in Christmas-related activities in 2018-19.
Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher
Christmas is a special time of the year and we want our community to enjoy it together. Along with our famous Floating Christmas Tree and the many other activities in central
Geelong, we also try to spread the Christmas love around the region.
The Christmas in the North initiatives are a very important addition this year, giving
communities in our fast-developing northern suburbs a better opportunity to celebrate the
festive season close to home.
