The City of Sydney is calling for operators to manage two end-of-trip facilities for bike riders in the city centre.
A new underground cycling facility has been created within Lendlease’s 53-storey tower development near Circular Quay. The Salesforce Tower development at 180 George Street also includes new community infrastructure, a business innovation space, retail laneways, public art, and a hospitality venue.
A second existing cycling facility is based at the Westpac development at 36 Sussex Street, Barangaroo, and is ready to occupy.
It is intended that both end-of-trip facilities will be used by the general public on a membership basis.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to develop high-quality end-of-trip facilities within two of our city’s busiest precincts,” Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.
“These spaces have room for dozens of bikes as well as lockers and showers, which can be used by people who may not have these amenities in their offices.”
The facility at 180 George Street spans approximately 700 square metres on the ground floor of the tower and features:
- 200 bike racks and spaces for cargo bikes, tandems, e-bikes, and charging outlets
- 14 male and 14 female showers
- 400 lockers with electronic keypads
- two unisex accessible toilet and shower facilities
- a one-directional circulation space to accommodate traffic at peak times
- bike maintenance area
- workshop space, including bike storage space
- office and concierge space
- 24/7 access for public cycle facility members.
The facility at 36 Sussex Street spans approximately 70 square metres and features:
- prominent location on Sussex Street
- 22 bike racks and spaces for cargo bikes, tandems, e-bikes, and charging outlets
- 38 lockers with electronic keypads
- three self-contained unisex toilets and shower facilities (one fully accessible)
- bike maintenance area
- 24/7 access for public cycle facility members.
The expression of interest invites an operator to manage both public cycling facilities for a three-year term, plus an optional two-year extension agreement.
Both facilities must be managed with associated programming in a financially self-sustaining model. Onsite bicycle repair and maintenance services at both sites will contribute to the business operating model.
The operator will be required to provide fit-out items including loose furniture, workstations, tools for bike repairs, and operational equipment such as AV, signs, and IT systems.
The operator will also be responsible for the payment of all outgoings associated with both sites including electricity, water, cleaning, facility operating and running costs, and all required insurances.
