City to celebrate completion of Heathcote projects

Greater Bendigo Mayor Cr Margaret O’Rourke and Councillors will celebrate the completion of a number of major projects and works that have taken place in Heathcote over the past 12 months.

Everyone is welcome to attend the celebration which will take place at the front of the recently restored City of Greater Bendigo offices in High Street at 10am.

The projects being celebrated include:

  • Completion of the new public toilets and demolition of the old toilet block.
  • The exterior restoration of the historic former Court House and former Shire Council Chambers to its original colour.
  • Work to renew internal painting, emergency exit access doors and the barbecue area at the Heathcote Bowling Club.
  • The installation of new shade structure and solar panels over the toddler pool at Heathcote Swimming Pool. Also repairs to the pool such as repainting, installation of new wet deck and pipework upgrade.
  • Completion of works to reconfigure internal spaces at Heathcote Library
  • Refurbishment of male, female and accessible toilet amenities at Heathcote RSL including painting, installation of mechanical ventilation, floor coverings, new fixtures and LED lighting
  • Replacement of the Heathcote Senior Citizens Hall roof.
  • Construction of new pedestrian bridge over McIvor creek in Chauncey Street.

Mayor O’Rourke said Council has shown a strong commitment to Heathcote through the projects.

“Many of these were priority projects listed in the Heathcote Township Plan and the City of Greater Bendigo Community Plan and have involved the efforts of many local groups and people.

“Through these projects local facilities have been greatly improved. The new public toilets were a priority project for the local community for many years, while the restoration of the exterior of the City offices has helped preserve one of Heathcote’s most historical buildings.

“Heathcote is the largest township within our municipality and its important to celebrate the improvements that have taken place over the past 12 months,” Cr O’Rourke said.

“In addition to the many projects already completed the City is also undertaking a project to review how community spaces are utilised in Heathcote. This is an exciting project which is currently ongoing.

“I encourage all interested residents to come along to the celebration which will take place adjacent to the Heathcote Bush Market at Barrack Reserve.

“We thought it was a good time to hold it when many members of the local community were already out and about in Heathcote and we look forward to joining with community members to celebrate the completed projects.
