Civic Hall Palm Tree

The terminal part of the palm where the prongs grow from is dead so the palm will not survive much longer.

This is always a risk when relocating very mature trees. The palm was gifted to the City of Ballarat from a sandy soil location and had not managed to maintain moisture in transit, which was detrimental to the tree.

Its condition has been determined by a City of Ballarat qualified Arborist.

A replacement palm is being sourced from a local area as survival is more likely when relocated from the same soil types.

The palm was gifted to Ballarat and it is maintained as part of Parks and Gardens maintenance program which includes regular inspections, irrigation and monitoring

The remaining two trees are surviving, and inspection has shown that they have established well, and new fronds are growing. Council will maintain the support structures for a further 12 months to ensure the root system of the trees is robust enough to support them, before the support structures are removed.
