Three drivers have been charged and 10 others were detected exceeding the speed limit by a minimum of 30km/h in a weekend operation targeting Sydney’s orbital roads.
Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy said Saturday night’s operation occurred after information was received by Strike Force Puma operatives.
Operation Midnight, involving the team from Strike Force Puma and Fairfield Highway Patrol, targeted drivers involved in an event known as the “Midnight Run (4-5 May 2019)
“The action by Puma operatives showed the clock truly had struck midnight for this group whose behaviour on the Sydney Orbital (M2, M5 and M7) placed themselves and other road users in extreme danger,” Assistant Commissioner Corboy said.
“The level of risk to other drivers and their passengers can not be underestimated if you consider we charged two drivers for street racing and a further six are facing hefty fines for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.”
Strike Force Puma will continue targeting those drivers who insist on thinking the road rules did not apply to them.

Two men, aged 22 and 23, will face court after being detected allegedly street racing on the M5 near Hammondville around 12.30am on Sunday (5 May 2019). They were issued Field Court Attendance Notices for the offences of street racing and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h. They will appear in Liverpool Local Court on 5 June 2019. The 23-year-old’s licence has been suspended, and his registration plates confiscated for three months. The 22-year-old’s licence was also suspended.
An 18-year-old Sylvania man has had his learner rider’s licence suspended after he was detected performing a burnout in front of a group of people at Prospect around 4.30pm on Saturday (4 May 2019). He will appear in Blacktown Local Court on Tuesday 28 May 2019 for the offence of perform an aggravated burn out. His registration plates were also confiscated for three months.
Six drivers were issued infringement notices for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h. This carries a penalty of $2435. Four drivers were issued infringement notices for exceeding the speed limit by more than 30km/h. These notices carry a penalty of $903.
