Clubs and groups urged to apply for CDF grant

Warrnambool clubs and organisations planning a new project or initiative are encouraged to apply for a grant through Council’s expanded 2020 Community Development Fund.

“The Community Development Fund has been going since 1999 and is extremely popular with local groups,” Warrnambool Mayor Cr Tony Herbert said.

“This year the fund has an extra $125,000 as part of Council’s commitment in the 2020-2021 Budget to increase support to the community as we recover from the impact of COVID-19.

“This means that we have up to $253,000 to distribute for eligible projects.

“Clubs and groups can apply for grants of up to $5,000, up from $3,000 last year.

“The other significant change we have made to the 2020 program is that applicants are not required to meet a funding ratio to be eligible.

“In previous years groups and clubs were required to contributed $1 for every $2 from Council.

“This year’s funding model acknowledges that many community groups will not be in a position to make contributions to their projects as a result of COVID-19.

“Some groups have faced a battle attracting and/or retaining members and as a result their capacity to generate the income required to meet the previous grant funding ratio is currently limited.

“Grants through the CDF can now cover the entire cost of eligible projects up to $5000 in value.

“i strongly encourage community groups to apply for this funding as for this year only there is no requirement for a club contribution. “
