Dec 7 2020: With Australians currently restricted from international travel, more people will travel to our coasts to holiday. This is an opportunity for more people to enjoy, appreciate and care for our coasts and marine environments.
Coastcare Week is an opportunity for local groups and volunteers to celebrate and promote the work they are doing throughout the year to care for our coasts and marine environments, encouraging more people to get involved.
With this year’s Coastcare Week (Dec 7 – 13), Landcare Australia is launching the Summer Up with Coastcare campaign aiming to raise public awareness over summer of the effects of litter on our waterways, encouraging all Australians to get connected to their local environment with Coastcare, and support groups to continue their invaluable work.
For Summer Up with Coastcare, Landcare Australia has developed a promotional tool kit to help groups create awareness of their group activity – one for use during Coastcare Week and another that can be used all summer long.
The tool kit will provide groups, individuals, facilitators, coordinators and councils help to promote their community group raise awareness of their activities, and also recruit and engage volunteers.
“There are hundreds of Coastcare groups and volunteers around the country doing incredible work to protect our waterways and marine environments but a big issue many contend with is promoting their work and ways to get involved,” says Coastcare manager Jo Stentiford.
“These hardworking volunteers are so strapped when it comes to resources, they don’t have the time or capacity to properly recruit or engage new volunteers or promote their activities to local media or on social media platforms.
“So the new Summer Up with Coastcare Promotional Tool Kit will give these groups and volunteers the basic templates to build their communications strategies so they can focus on the on-ground work at hand.”
