A man has been refused bail after 15kg of cocaine – which has an alleged estimated potential street value of $22.5m – was seized in Sydney’s Inner West yesterday.
Detectives attached to the State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad attended The Parade at Dulwich Hill just before 1pm yesterday (Friday 2 February 2024), as part of inquiries under Strike Force Mactier into the supply of prohibited drugs.
As investigators approached a man removing a bag from the boot of a vehicle, he allegedly dropped the bag and tried to flee before being arrested.
When the bag was searched, officers found a 1kg block of cocaine stamped with a “Scarface” logo.
The 22-year-old man was taken to Ashfield Police Station, with a search warrant executed at premises on Alexandra Street, Drummoyne, just after 5pm.
Police will allege a further 14kg of cocaine was found when the garage was searched.
The total of the seized cocaine has an alleged estimated potential street value of $22.5m.
Three vehicles – including an Audi RS3, and two Nissan Silvias – were also seized.
The man, from Drummoyne, has now been charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity).
He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 3 February 2024); he has again been refused bail and has been remanded in custody to appear in Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 3 April 2024.
Organised Crime Squad commander, Detective Superintendent Peter Faux, said yesterday’s arrest was the culmination of a focused investigation aimed at disrupting the supply of illicit drugs in the community.
“This arrest and seizure means a significant quantity of an illegal drug is now off Sydney’s streets,” Det Supt Faux said.
“The arrest demonstrates the successful and effective combination of state-of-the-art technology as well as dogged, feet-on-the-ground investigative work by my team.
“It also serves as a warning to those seeking to traffic illicit drugs in the community: the NSW Police is committed to identifying and arresting those involved in illegal activities and put them before the court,” he said.
