Colac Otway endorses new agreement for Apollo Bay’s heated pool
Colac Otway Shire Council has endorsed a new funding agreement with the Apollo Bay P-12 School Council for the Apollo Bay Pool.
The agreement confirms Council’s commitment to provide $200,000 annually for operational costs of the new indoor, heated pool.
The construction and conversion of the former cold-water, outdoor pool into an indoor, heated pool is underway and due for completion in February 2020.
Colac Otway Shire Mayor Cr Jason Schram said the community had worked hard for many years to raise funds and campaign for support to have an indoor, heated pool in Apollo Bay.
“I congratulate the community, and particularly the Apollo Bay Aquatic Centre Committee and the Apollo Bay P-12 College, on achieving a heated, indoor pool which can be used by residents and visitors all year round”.
“Council is pleased to be able to support the community by providing $200,000 a year towards the pool’s operation, with the pool open to the public for a minimum of 20 hours a week,” Cr Schram said.
“The project is fantastic for Apollo Bay and will be extremely important in encouraging healthy lifestyles, with opportunities for children to learn to swim all year around.”
Colac Otway Shire Council endorsed the Apollo Bay Pool Funding Agreement at yesterday’s October Ordinary Council Meeting.
Council has also agreed to release $15,000 out of its annual contribution one month prior to the opening of the pool. These funds will assist with preparing for the operational set-up of the upgraded facility.
Council will also make the key terms of the funding agreement available to the public.
