Colac Otway Shire Councillors have elected Cr Chris Potter as Mayor for the next 12 months.
Cr Potter brings six years of experience to the role, including a term as Mayor in his first year as a Colac Otway Shire Councillor in 2016.
Cr Potter, elected by unanimous vote, said he was honoured to be elected Mayor and looked forward to working for the community in the role.
“I look forward to working closely with Councillors, the organisation and the people of Colac Otway.
“We’re a passionate group of Councillors and we all bring a different set of skills and experience to the table, I look forward to working together to do great things for our community.
“Our community has entrusted us with an important job and our focus is on creating an efficient and effective organisation that’s well positioned to serve our community and create a vibrant future for our shire,” he said.
Cr Potter has over 40 years of experience working in the government sector as a police officer. His long-standing career as a detective in Colac has given Cr Potter a deep knowledge of our community and has brought him into contact with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
The newly elected Mayor thanked outgoing Mayor Kate Hanson for her leadership over the last two years.
“The past two years have created some unique challenges and I wish to congratulate Cr Hanson for doing a fantastic job serving her community,” Cr Potter said.
At the meeting, Council resolved not to establish the office of the Deputy Mayor.
