Great story lead for your audience with strong links back to Australia!
Brunel’s SS Great Britain brought the English Cricket team to Australia in 1861 and 1863. The ship is now based in Bristol, where many warm up and main tournament games are being played.
Brunel’s SS Great Britain is one of the most important historic ships in the world and welcomes you and your TV Crew/Journalists on board to see what it was like for the English Cricket Team to travel to Australia. This is a perfect backdrop to bring the story alive for Australian audiences.
English Cricketer Charles Lawrence never returned to England after playing with this team, staying in Australia where he went on to play for New South Wales. He trained a team of Aboriginal Cricketers taking them on to tour Victoria during 1866-67, later sailing with the team to England to play cricket for Australia in 1868.
Lots of anecdotes, people to interview and a fantastic interactive experience which will make a great story – all just over an hour from London.
Bristol is home to Banksy, been named Europe’s coolest city, the kindest city in the UK and been hailed by Conde Nast as one of the top 10 places to visit in 2019! It’s also a great base for cricket fans and media outlets making their way to the games.
Let me know if this is of interest and if I can connect you with the team in Bristol to assist in bringing this story alive.
