Colour Dash to support International Day of People with Disability

A ‘Colour Dash’ will be held at Elephant Park on Friday 3 December to celebrate International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD).

The free, accessible event is for people of all abilities and is hosted by Orange City Council’s Community Development Team.

Orange Mayor Reg Kidd encouraged families of all ages to come along to join in the fun and share their support for the 4.4 million Australians living with disability.

“This is an opportunity for the community to come together and promote greater awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disability,” he said.

“I encourage everyone to come along, share your stories and talk about ways to break down barriers for people with disability in our community.”

IDPwD is held on December 3 each year to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.

The theme for this year is ‘Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world’.

The Colour Dash will be held from 11am to 2pm at Elephant Park in Woodward Street and includes a free barbecue lunch.

Attendees at the event will also have the opportunity to complete the Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) Survey. Information provided by the community will assist Council to make changes in an effort to improve Orange as a safe and accessible place for people living with disability.
