Award-winning comedian and author Benjamin Stevenson is stopping into the Pioneer Theatre to discuss his latest novel, Everyone On This Train Is A Suspect.

Benjamin’s latest book follows from his international bestseller, Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone, which captivated readers worldwide. His first novel, Greenlight, was shortlisted for the Ned Kelly Award for Best Debut Crime Fiction, and his novel Either Side of Midnight was shortlisted for the International Thriller Writers Award for Best Original Paperback.

Benjamin’s success continued with his third novel, Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone, which made it to the bestseller list in twenty-seven countries and was later acquired by HBO for a television series. The novel was a finalist for the Dymocks Book of the Year 2022, ABIA General Fiction Book of the Year 2023, and BookPeople’s Fiction Book of the Year 2023. It was also recognised in The Sunday Times as one of the best crime novels of 2022.

Benjamin said that he aimed to be a published author by 30, driven by his passion for writing.

“I had this ridiculous notion that I wanted to be published while I was still young. It was all part of my wanting to be taken seriously as a writer,” Benjamin said.

“I was thrilled to achieve that – but the real key to my career has been taking myself, and my writing ‘less’ seriously. Now I’m having fun with it and readers are too!”

Benjamin has sold out comedy shows across the world from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He has appeared on ABC TV, Channel 10 and The Comedy Channel and is an award-winning stand-up comedian, adding yet another feather to his cap.

Benjamin believes his experience as a comedian has propelled him into becoming a best-selling author, teaching him the skills he needs to keep his audience engaged.

“Just like on stage, when a comedian reads the energy of the audience and adapts their performance to fit,” Benjamin said.

“You can’t adapt a novel the same way, but you can ‘anticipate’ how the reader is feeling. So, I’ve brought ‘reading the room’ over from comedy.”

Don’t miss out on the incredible opportunity to see Benjamin in person as he delves into his gripping novel and explains the creative process that brought this book to life.

On the night, there will be an opportunity to purchase Benjamin’s latest release and have him sign the copy.
