Football Australia is thrilled to announce that the CommBank Matildas “Send Off” match against France at Marvel Stadium on Friday 14 July has officially sold out.
With every seat that was available for sale now snapped up, and only very limited standing-room tickets remaining, it is expected a crowd in excess of 50,000 fans will pack out Marvel Stadium in Melbourne for what will be the CommBank Matildas final encounter prior to kicking off their FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ campaign on Thursday 20 July.
The match on Friday night will set a new home crowd record for the Australian senior women’s national football team, eclipsing the previous best of 36,109 in 2021, when the CommBank Matildas hosted the USA at Accor Stadium in Sydney.
Football Australia, CEO, James Johnson said: “We are absolutely delighted but not surprised to see this Send-Off match sell out.
“The CommBank Matildas are a team that resonates with all Australians as one of the most popular national teams in the country, and we have witnessed rapid growth in both general interest and attendance over the past four years. This is a testament to the hard work of so many both on and off the field.
“When Football Australia bid to co-host the FIFA Women’s World Cup, we knew it would provide an unprecedented platform for the women’s game to shine and inspire, where the legacy created by staging this tournament will be felt for decades to come.
“Our CommBank Matildas are box office, and along with the Subway Socceroos can unite a nation like no other teams. We look forward to lifting the roof off Marvel Stadium during what will be a very special occasion,” Johnson concluded.
To add to the occasion, the sell-out crowd will also be treated to live music pre and post-match, as ‘CUPRA Presents: Hot Dub Time Machine’. Internationally renowned artist, Hot Dub Time Machine will take over the DJ decks to greet fans from 6:20 pm, as well as performing a special 20-minute set after the final whistle to truly ‘Send Off’ the CommBank Matildas in style.
The crowd figure will be subject to how many of the venue’s Medallion Club Members and Corporate Box holders attend on the night, with the final total to be confirmed and announced midway through the second half.
Full coverage of the ‘Send Off’ Match will be broadcast live and free on 10 Bold, 10 Play and Paramount+, with kick-off at 7.30 pm AEST.
