CommBank ParaMatildas secure place in World Cup Final with win over Denmark

The CommBank ParaMatildas have booked their ticket to the 2024 IFCPF Women’s World Cup Final for the second consecutive year following a powerful 10-0 victory over Denmark.

The win continued a perfect record for the CommBank ParaMatildas who navigated the Group Stage without losing a match and scoring 25 goals while only conceding five.

The Australian’s will now face the USA in the World Cup Final for the second time, looking to take revenge for last year’s defeat in the final, while becoming the first Australian national football side to win a World Cup.

The final match of the group stage started under perfect conditions at Futbol Salou in Spain on the second last day of the women’s tournament.

Queenslander Trinity McPhie started for the first time of her blossoming CommBank ParaMatildas career while Rae Anderson started for the first time in this tournament.

With the table-topping Australians taking on the last placed Danish team, it wasn’t long before the CommBank ParaMatildas asserted their dominance.

Defender Rae Anderson scored her first international goal in the third minute of the match, before regular goal-scorers Katelyn Smith and Annmarie De Uriarte bagged three goals between them to have full control of the result in the opening stages.

The tenth minute of the contest saw Trinity McPhie score her first international goal in just her third match, expertly guiding the ball into the back of the net following some crisp team passing.

Denmark continued to test the Australian defence in the first-ever meeting between the two nations, but Australia’s defence remained in-tact for the duration of the contest.

As the referee’s whistle bellowed across the field to signal the end of the match, the CommBank ParaMatildas laid claim to a comprehensive 10-0 victory and held their ticket to the World Cup Final.

The IFCPF Women’s World Cup 2024 Final will take place on Tuesday, 19 November at 2.30pm CET (12.30am AEDT, Wednesday 20 November) between the CommBank ParaMatildas and the USA.
