The CommBank Pararoos have named their squad for an upcoming training camp as preparations continue for the 2024 IFCPF World Cup in Salou, Spain.
The 24-player squad will assemble for a rigorous three-day camp from Friday, 12 July to Sunday, 14 July, at Knox Grammar School in Sydney.
Five new players will join the squad following the CommBank Pararoos’ last camp in February 2024, including Football Australia’s most capped male ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Team player and CP Football legend, David Barber (Football QLD).
Returning alongside Barber is experienced campaigner Ben Atkins (Football NSW), adding a veteran presence to the squad which features 13 players with two or fewer caps and 10 players yet to make their international debut.
William McGrath (Football NSW) has been rewarded with his first squad inclusion after being named a train-on player in February, while seven Member Federations are represented within the team, reflecting the talent developing across Australia.
With just over 100 days until the 2024 IFCPF World Cup, the camp holds increased significance as players contend for World Cup selection.
CommBank Pararoos’ Head Coach Kai Lammert emphasised the importance of experienced players training alongside a young and developing squad.
“Having seasoned players like David (Barber) and Ben (Atkins) in the camp provides invaluable mentorship to our emerging talents. Their experience will be crucial as we prepare for the World Cup and work towards our goals,” Lammert said.
“Integrating new players and giving them exposure to this level of training is essential for our long-term success. The enthusiasm and fresh perspective they bring can invigorate the entire squad.
“This camp is not just about physical preparation but also about building a cohesive team spirit. The mix of veterans and newcomers creates a dynamic environment where everyone can learn from each other.
“We are committed to fostering a strong team culture which will be vital in Spain. The players understand the significance of this opportunity and are ready to give their best,” Lammert concluded.
