Commissioner of Police Announces Major Airwing Fleet Modernisation for the Northern Territory Police Force

The Northern Territory Police Force (NTPF) is upgrading its aircraft fleet to improve operational efficiency, safety, and response times across the Territory.

This modernisation will better support remote and regional communities, especially during critical situations such as natural disasters and search and rescue missions, enabling rapid deployment of officers anywhere across our vast 1.4 million square kilometre jurisdiction within four hours.

Commissioner of Police Michael Murphy APM said, “By upgrading to the latest aviation technology, we are not only enhancing our capacity to respond to emergencies, but also ensuring the safety and operational readiness of our pilots. The new fleet is crucial to improving our capabilities in remote and regional areas, making it easier for us to respond quickly and effectively to community needs.”

Strategically stationed in Darwin and Alice Springs, the new fleet will reduce downtime and improve operational efficiency, enabling faster responses to incidents like natural disasters and emergency operations

“These upgrades not only support our day-to-day operations but also enhance our ability to respond rapidly to any situation, ensuring that we can maintain safety and stability throughout the Northern Territory, particularly during times of crisis,” Commissioner Murphy added. “This fleet upgrade is an investment in the future, providing long-term savings and, most importantly, better outcomes for the communities we serve.”

With these improvements, the NTPF is better equipped to meet future challenges and ensure the safety of all Territorians.
