Commissioner’s Gift Drive spreads spirit of Christmas

Yesterday, Commissioner Katarina Carroll joined Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services the Honourable Mark Ryan MP for the annual Commissioner’s Christmas Gift Drive presentation.

This year, the Queensland Police Service (QPS) donated more than 2,000 gifts to the Department of Child Safety for children in their care.

A number of children attended the ceremony at Police Headquarters and were personally gifted presents from Commissioner Carroll and Santa Claus.

Also joining in the celebrations today were the QPS Melody in Blue band and police puppies.

The Commissioner’s Christmas Gift Drive is celebrating its 27th year, where QPS members and other individuals and agencies generously donate age-appropriate Christmas gifts for children in care to ensure they feel special and cherished during the holiday season.

Commissioner Carroll said she was extremely proud of the QPS family for their generosity, spreading Christmas cheer and putting a smile on many young faces.

This generosity was demonstrated through the overflowing QPS collection points at Police Headquarters, the QPS Academy and Policelink.

“For many of us, the Christmas season is a time when we reflect on the community around us and seek ways where we can make a difference, and we are able to witness the happiness and joy that the gift of giving brings to our special guests,” Commissioner Carroll said.

“This is a great initiative of which I am very proud to be associated with and I give my personal thanks to everyone involved.

“I wish everyone a merry Christmas and the very best for a safe and happy festive season.”
