Communities across Western Australia will host events and activities that raise awareness about family and domestic violence during this year’s 16 Days in WA campaign.
The Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing received $25,000 to administer small community grants State-wide, supporting 22 organisations to run events throughout the campaign that help bolster community understanding of gender-based violence.
16 Days in WA, now in its eighth year, runs from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day).
This year’s theme is ‘Stopping Family and Domestic Violence: Play your part’, which aims to encourage people to consider the actions they can take to call out inappropriate behaviour, spark conversations, or identify the signs of abuse.
Events and activities run by grant recipients will include workshops, morning teas, indoor markets, silent marches and a community mural project.

“Whether it’s attending a local community event, calling out inappropriate behaviour or starting a conversation with a loved one, we all have a part to play when it comes to preventing this scourge on our society.
“Event organisers across the State will play an important role in educating and motivating their communities to consider how they can help end the cycle of abuse.
“I want to congratulate the community grants recipients and acknowledge the Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing for their ongoing support of victim-survivors.
