NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) is urging communities to stay vigilant with the potential for severe weather to hit parts of the state over the weekend.
The Bureau of Meteorology has advised that there is the potential for severe storms to hit on Saturday, particularly for communities living in the state’s north east.
NSW SES Assistant Commissioner, Dean Storey, said it was important communities make sure they are prepared should a storm hit their local area.
“Tomorrow (Saturday) may start out as a bright and sunny day, but that does not mean the weather can’t change quickly,” Mr Storey said.
“We have already seen a number of times how quickly storms can happen and how destructive they can be.
“That is why we are urging communities to make sure they are prepared now,” he said.
Mr Storey explained that there are very simple steps people can take to prepare for potential storms.
“It starts by being aware of when severe weather is likely to hit,” Mr Storey said.
“Make sure you keep up-to-date with the weather forecasts and watch for any warnings issued by the Bureau of Meteorology.
“Then take the time to check your gutters and downpipes for any blockages and your roof for any holes that could let water come into your home.
“Another easy thing to do is move your car undercover where possible, or at least away from any trees and powerlines.
“If anyone needs assistance about how to prepare for potential storms, I encourage you to visit our website ses.nsw.gov.au,” he said.
