- $549,901 in grants awarded to help companion animals and rescued wildlife
- Animal Welfare Grant Program’s second funding round to support 24 not-for-profit projects across Western Australia
Agriculture and Food Minister Alannah MacTiernan announced today $549,901 in funding for 24 community-based projects which will lead to better care for companion animals and rescued wildlife.
The State Government’s Animal Welfare Grant Program supports a range of not-for profit projects including fostering or rehoming of companion animals, rehabilitating wildlife and providing low-cost animal health or veterinary care for disadvantaged people.
Successful regional projects include the rehabilitation of western ringtail possums in the Great Southern and South-West, discounted veterinary services for concession card holders or those suffering financial difficulty in the Goldfields-Esperance region and construction of a shed to provide hospital space and rehabilitation area in the Kimberley.
In the Perth metropolitan area, successful projects include improvements to facilities housing dogs and cats, including shade covers and a misting system to keep animals cool over summer.
Foster care services for a range of companion animals including rabbits and guinea pigs will also receive a funding boost.
In the Metro-Peel area, an Intensive Care Unit will be constructed to treat injured native animals and 14 enclosures will be built or refurbished to house rescued wildlife.

“There was significant interest in this funding round, highlighting the passion, commitment and demand from community-groups wanting to provide the best possible care for animals in need.
“We commend the WA community and these dedicated community groups who do so much to support the health and welfare of companion animals and displaced or injured wildlife.”
