Georges River Council is inviting green-thumbed residents to register for a morning of tree planting at Lower Gannons Park, South Peakhurst, on Saturday 29 June 2024.
In partnership with Landcare NSW and Greater Sydney Landcare, and funded by the NSW Government, we will be planting trees as part of the Greening our City initiative. This initiative aims to lower urban heat in the Greater Sydney area by planting 200,000 trees between 2023 and 2025.
Georges River Council Mayor, Sam Elmir, said, “We’re planting trees to help cool down Georges River and wider Sydney to create valuable habitats for birds and other local wildlife.
“Green spaces aren’t just important for wildlife; this will improve the physical health and lower stress levels for our community. This is your chance to get outside and actively involved with greening your community with your community.”

What to bring: Please wear long sleeves, long pants, closed sturdy shoes, a hat, and sunscreen, and bring a drinking bottle with water.
