Swan Hill Rural City Council has halved hire costs at the Robinvale, Lake Boga, Nyah, Manangatang and Woorinen community centres.
When developing this year’s Council budget, Councillors agreed to reduce the hire fees to make them more accessible to community groups.
Mayor Ann Young said the centres were an asset to local communities, and Council wanted people to be able to use them.
“We hope cheaper hire fees will make the centres more affordable for things like meetings, events and parties, and might even encourage commercial hirers to consider using them too,” she said.
For example, hall hire for community groups and charities has dropped from $680 to $340 for the large Robinvale Community Centre, $250 to $125 for Lake Boga and Nyah centres, and $50 to $25 for Manangatang and Woorinen.
Other fees that have been halved include foyer hire, hourly hire for meetings, hall set-up, use of catering facilities and theatre hire at Robinvale.
