Following high interest from the community over a proposal for a waste to energy facility in Dandenong South, Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) will hold a 20b community conference as part of its Works Approval application process.
The proposed waste-to-energy facility, to be operated by Great Southern Waste Technologies, seeks to utilise gasification technology developed by Energos Technology AS, processing 100,000 tonnes/year of municipal solid waste (MSW) and commercial and industrial waste (C&I), to deliver approximately 7.9 MW of electricity to the grid.
EPA has been taking submissions from the public and participated in information sessions. The purpose of the 20b community conference is to:
- enable EPA to listen to and better understand, the views and concerns of the community and stakeholders
- help explain the works approval application, the assessment process and current status
- discuss possible resolutions to matters raised in submissions
The conference will be independently chaired and a conference report will be prepared following the conference, including recommendations to EPA Victoria for consideration in its assessment of the Works Approval Application.
Please note that no final decision regarding the works approval application will be made at the conference.
