A series of Dry Lands to High Hopes events continue to run across the Isaac region in the lead up to Christmas.

The events are aimed at creating a social opportunity for people to talk, share and participate in a range of activities relating to health and wellbeing.

Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said the events will contribute to social connectedness and wellbeing as well as increasing access to local support services.

“We know that the COVID-19 pandemic has meant that our drought-affected Isaac communities are facing social and economic challenges on two fronts,” she said.

“This ongoing drought, and the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, is having a flow-on effect, spreading from farms to businesses and households and the Queensland Government grant to help stage these events will help boost our rural and regional communities.”

Moranbah’s Ted Rolfe Oval will be hosting the Christmas Movie in the Park event on 11 December 2020 from 6pm with a screening of the family-favourite ‘Elf’. Bring your own picnic blanket, chairs and snacks. A sausage sizzle will be available so attendees hoping to grab a snag are encouraged to bring cash.

An invitation only event for the MacKenzie River community will also be held on 28 November 2020.

The Dry Lands to High Hopes events are free and are proudly supported by Isaac Regional Council in conjunction with the Queensland Government’s Community Drought Support Program.

The program aims to strengthen the resilience of drought-affected Queenslanders by building on existing community support mechanisms to increase access and participation.
