Community Grants Available For Australia Day 2025

Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister, Assistant Minister for the Public Service, Assistant Minister to the Attorney-General

The Australian Government is providing financial support for hundreds of Australia Day 2025 community events around the country.

Funding eligibility has been expanded for 2025 to ensure our national day is inclusive of the stories and histories of all Australians, including those from regional and remote Australia.

Under the Australia Day 2025 Community Events Grant Program, local councils, Government entities and not-for-profit organisations are eligible to apply for a fixed grant of $10,000 to deliver inclusive events on our national day.

As in previous years, an additional $5,000 is available for events that include significant Indigenous Australian elements.

The Program, run by the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Australia Day Council, fosters a more inclusive and culturally rich Australia.

Grant-funded events by local councils and community groups are vital to representing the true diversity of Australia and to providing communities the opportunity to reflect, respect and celebrate.

Events previously funded by the program have included multicultural festivals, Welcomes to Country, citizenship ceremonies, morning teas, mornings of mourning, barbecues, live performances and storytelling with local Indigenous Australian communities.

Quotes attributable to Assistant Minister Patrick Gorman:

“Australia Day is a time for all Australians to reflect on and celebrate the rich tapestry of our ancient, diverse, and multicultural nation.”

“It is a day to acknowledge the past and pay respect to Indigenous Australians’ survival, resilience and enduring culture.

“It is also an opportunity to embrace the many cultures and backgrounds that make up the Australian story.

“This commitment is a significant step towards building a more inclusive and culturally vibrant Australia. By supporting a wider range of community events around Australia, we will foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for our nation’s rich tapestry.”

“In 2025 I expect to fund even more events than the 640 events held in 2024.”

Applications are now open and will close at 5pm (AEDT) Friday 11 October 2024.
