Edward River Council will fund nine community projects through the 2023/24 Community Grants Program. Community projects ranging from mental health first-aid courses to commercial refrigerator for the Salvation Army’s food pantry are among the 9 recipients sharing $24,099 in grant funding.
Community groups and not-for-profit organisations which involve and benefit the Edward River community were invited to apply for funding through Edward River Council’s 2023/24 Community Grants Program.
Projects, equipment or events that support a creative, cohesive community that will enhance the livability of Edward River were eligible for grants of up to $3,000.00.
This year’s program received 15 applications requesting a total $46,499.00 in funding across all aspects of community activities from health, arts, education, wellbeing, and sports.
A total of 9 applications were successful in receiving full or partial funding representing an overall contribution of $24,099.00 from Edward River Council.
The funding will see the following Community Groups benefit:
- Deniliquin Mental Health Awareness Group received funding for 20 community members to attend a mental health first aid course
- Deniliquin Community Gardens were funded for the construction of a garden community shelter
- Outback Theatre for Young People received funding towards “Boring to Brick Bright” Blighty Public School Mural
- South West Music Conservatorium were funded for a Childrens Music Concert
- Rotary Club will purchase commercial refrigeration for the Salvation Army’s Community Food Pantry
- Deniliquin Playgroup will purchase new resources and toys
- U3A will run Be self sufficient and artistic combined community workshops
- Deniliquin South Public School received funding to complete stage 3 of an obstacle course
- Deniliquin Stadium were funded to purchase the playing floor for the newly formed Table Tennis Club.
Edward River Council Mayor, Cr Peta Betts said it was encouraging to see the wide breadth of applications that sought to make Edward River a better place to live.
“The grants program focuses on supporting community organisations to provide programs and projects that respond to local needs and make a positive contribution to achieving community development outcomes.” said Cr Betts.
“We allocated these grants to help local groups get projects happening that benefit a range of people and can be enjoyed by our community.”
All applicants were reviewed by a grant assessment panel and approved by Council at its meeting on Tuesday 17th October.
Council is currently informing all applicants of the outcome.
