The Andrews Labor Government is engaging with students and families about the future design of Wonthaggi Secondary College’s new San Remo junior campus.
Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale today released the community engagement report about the design of the new junior secondary campus in San Remo and thanked those who had their say on the future campus.
The community were invited to participate in the process, which included a drop-in session attended by dozens of local residents and an online survey where hundreds of comments were received.
The consultation heard that participants strongly valued the local environment, particularly the coastline, and suggested the design of the campus should be contemporary and environmentally sustainable.
An architect has been appointed and will soon begin developing the plan, with feedback from the community consultation to be provided to them for consideration.Further consultation will also be undertaken in coming months to seek the community’s views on a new name for Wonthaggi Secondary College
The Labor Government announced in August it would build a new junior secondary campus in San Remo, following extensive consultation with the local community.
The new campus will be a Year 7-9 campus of Wonthaggi Secondary College, adding to the school’s existing two campuses.
Discussions to identify a final site for the campus are continuing and will be finalised in the coming months.
The new school is one of 13 that will open in 2022, funded through the $624.8 million allocated in the Victorian Budget 19/20 to build new schools.
A total of 100 new schools will open by 2026 under the Labor Government’s school building boom, ensuring every child has a great local school and a great start in life.
