Community input needed for Highton Village Laneways Upgrade

The beloved laneways that contribute to the ‘village feel’ in Highton are set to undergo a refresh over 2023-2024 with the community’s help.

We are beginning detailed design of the Highton Village Laneways following Council’s endorsement of the Highton Urban Design Framework (UDF) in October 2022.

We’re calling on community members who live, work, travel through and shop in the area to for the Highton Village laneways and comment on the concept plan from the UDF.

The project area includes the Bellevue Arcade, Village Walk and the service lane around the supermarket.

Councillor Ron Nelson – Kardinia Ward

Council is funding the design and construction of this project over the next few years.

The laneways in Highton Village are one of the reasons the area is so popular in Geelong and it’s time to upgrade the tired space.

We want to make sure the area’s charm is retained while improving the visitor experience with features like more vegetation, new paving, pergola structures and better connections.

Councillor Bruce Harwood – Kardinia Ward

The public consultation will allow the City and the community to come together once again to explore opportunities for this special area, such as more signage, shelter and lighting.

Council appreciates the detailed and insightful feedback from residents, traders, shoppers and commuters during the five rounds of engagement on the Highton UDF.

We want to progress the initial concepts from the UDF with help from community members so the laneways continue to be an attractive and accessible area to visit.

Councillor Belinda Moloney – Kardinia Ward

The City team wants to hear a range of views from people of all ages and backgrounds to get the clearest picture on how to best move forward.

Please make sure to add a marker or comment on the two interactive maps until Friday 10 March at yoursay.geelongaustralia.com.au/HVLU, where you can also reference the final Highton UDF.

The feedback collected from this engagement will help shape a detailed concept plan for the community to review before construction starts.
