Community organisations and local governments share in grants for Seniors Week events

  • Seniors Week Community Grants Program enables community groups and local governments to stage Seniors Week events
  • More than $40,000 distributed in total
  • Seniors Week for 2022 will run between 6 and 13 November
  • Seniors and Ageing Minister Don Punch today announced the recipients of Seniors Week Grants for 2022.

More than 50 community organisations and local governments will share in grants totalling over $40,000 to run events for Seniors Week.

Seniors Week celebrates the role of older people in our communities, promotes positive ageing and encourages participation in community life.

Held between 6 and 13 November, the week will see dozens of events and activities staged across Western Australia.

A total of 52 community-level organisations and local governments in metropolitan, regional and remote areas of WA have been provided with grant funding for Seniors Week activities.

    Events being funded include:

    • a ‘Seniors in the Shed’ event at the Northam Men’s Shed;
    • a ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’ in Mundijong; and
    • a ‘Vintage High Tea’ at the City of Vincent Library, with staff dressed in vintage clothes and a slideshow from the library’s historic image collection.

The funding of up to $3000 per event will be used to cover expenses such as advertising and promotion, catering, venue and equipment hire, and transport.

The Seniors Week Community Grants Program is funded by Department of Communities and managed by the Council on the Ageing (WA) on behalf of the State Government.

As stated by Seniors and Ageing Minister Don Punch:

“The Seniors Week Community Grants Program enables community groups and local governments across Western Australia to hold events that connect seniors with their community.

“These events will celebrate the role of seniors and encourage participation in community life, particularly for isolated individuals.

“Seniors Week events are great opportunities to recognise and thank seniors for their contribution to our community.

“Many events promote intergenerational activities and link seniors to their communities.

“Importantly, Seniors Week events engage seniors in a variety of activities and initiatives that encourage active ageing.”
