Knox Police responded to reports of a trailer roll over in Ferntree Gully last night.
An 80-year-old Ferntree Gully man was driving his blue Ford Falcon sedan along Glenfern Road when he approached the intersection of Brennock Park Drive about 6.40pm.
As he entered the roundabout, the trailer he was towing, with three heifers on board, rolled.
All three animals escaped from the trailer and began roaming the local streets for a number of hours.
Fire Rescue Victoria, SES, local vets, vet nurses, farmers and Council Rangers assisted in the search for the heifers.
Two of the heifers were located in Kings Park and the final heifer was located in the rear yard of a property on Dawson Street.
All three heifers were eventually sedated before they were able to be removed safely from the area and transported back home.
Quotes attributable to Acting Senior Sergeant Melanie Woods from Knox Police.
“This was a wonderful show of community spirit with so many local people coming out to assist in the safe recovery of all three heifers.
“Thankfully no one was injured as we searched for the girls as they were quite distressed and at times, had charged at some people who were trying to assist with their recovery.
“I would really like to thank all those involved as we wouldn’t have been able to safely return the heifers home without the help of those who came out and stayed the course overnight.”
