Community Service Announcement: Coastal work following erosion from recent swell

While Sunshine Coast beaches held up relatively well following last week’s large easterly swell affecting much of the east coast, some erosion issues along the coastline have been identified.

Starting today (July 8), Sunshine Coast Council officers are undertaking further coastal inspections and prioritising on ground works to repair some of the swell impacts.

Currently identified erosion issues include the following:

  • Erosion along a number of Marcoola beach accesses,

  • Sand build-up at Maroochydore and Kawana Surf Clubs car parks,

  • Moffat Beach accesses and boat ramp closed due to erosion,

  • General scarping (1 to 2m) across all open beaches.

Works at the worst affected areas along the coast will continue for the rest of this week. Council thanks the community for their patience and attention during the period of these works.

Please follow all advice from Surf Life Saving Queensland, and remember to swim only at patrolled beaches and always between the flags.
