Northern Territory Police are continuing to work closely with the residents of Wadeye after recent unrest in the community.
Since 2 December 2023, police had received multiple reports of disturbances throughout the community, including illegal supply of drugs and alcohol, fighting and domestic violence.
Additional resources have been deployed into the community to help restore calm and police are already seeing a reduction in crime and anti-social behaviour.
Northern Territory Police have made a total of 9 arrests, with 3 youth and 3 adults arrested in relation to ramming police vehicles and the police station, 1 adult female was arrested for assault police and a further 2 adults arrested for separate incidents.
The success of police roadblocks in Daly River saw 7 vehicles stopped, with one driver failing to stop for police. A tyre deflation device was deployed with the vehicle pulling over safely. The driver was arrested for drink driving and a large quantity of liquor seized from the vehicle.
Further roadblocks in Adelaide River saw 4 vehicles stopped and 1g of methamphetamine seized.
Commander Brendan Muldoon said, “Extensive collaboration with the community, aided by an increase in police resourcing, has already some very positive results.
“Our roadblocks have been effective in disrupting the supply and distribution of illicit substances into the community, which we know fuels violence and anti-social behaviour.”
