Patient, kind, with a smile that will truly brighten your day. These are some of the ways colleagues of Tracey Codner have described her.
Nepean Hospital Midwife, Tracey Codner
With traits like this it’s no wonder Tracey – a Clinical Midwifery Consultant at Nepean Hospital – has been nominated for Midwife of the Year at the NSW Health Excellence in Nursing and Midwifery for 2023.
The award recognises a midwife who has made an outstanding contribution towards providing and coordinating safe, quality, and compassionate woman-centred care, consistently displaying the values of commitment, compassion, resilience, professionalism, and collaboration.
While the spotlight shines on Tracey, the midwife is quick to point out that delivering high quality woman-centred care is a team effort.
“I work in a great team which makes coming to work so easy. We all just want to do what’s best for the women and families in our care to assist them in feeling empowered and safe on their pregnancy journey,” says Tracey.
Tracey has been an integral member of the team supporting women’s health at Nepean Hospital for the past twenty years. In her role she cares for women and their families in an all-encompassing way, and has the ability to really see the woman, understand their position and deliver individualised care that is exceptional in every way.
Tracey walks beside women whose pregnancy and birth journeys are complex and sometimes heartbreaking. She does this with deep respect for the woman’s wishes.
“My heart goes out to all of the women and families that we care for. I’m there to support them in any way that I can and I’m incredibly privileged to be in a position where I can help families in a positive way regardless of their circumstances.”
Tracey is one of 29 finalists in this year’s Excellence in Nursing and Midwifery Awards. Finalists and winners will be celebrated at an awards ceremony on 16 November 2023.
