The tourism industry’s leading conference is expected to inject more than a quarter of a million dollars into the local economy of the host town, Karratha, when it takes place later this year.
More than 200 delegates are expected to attend the 2019 WA Regional Tourism Conference, which travels north for the first time on September 16 – 18.
“Economic modelling shows conference delegates are expected to inject $310,000 into the local economy across the three-day event,” Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall said.
“These delegates will come from all around Western Australia, and will spend on accommodation, meals, tours and entertainment.”
The conference will include three days of speakers, workshops, tours and networking, with delegates to include tourism operators, visitor centre staff, local tourism bodies, consultants and suppliers, and representatives from all levels of government.
Following a competitive tender process, the City of Karratha was named as host town in recognition of its significant commitment to growing the region’s tourism capacity and offering.
The WA Tourism Conference was introduced in 2015 as an industry-wide event and is now co-hosted by several industry associations including Tourism Council WA, Visitor Centres WA, Caravan Industry Association WA and the Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council. The event is supported by Tourism WA and the City of Karratha. This year’s event will be the second held in a regional location, with the conference held in Albany in 2017.
