Congestion-busting Plan Revealed For Logan Motorway

  • The Miles Government and Transurban Queensland are advancing planning, market engagement and preliminary procurement for a project proposal to upgrade approximately 10km of the Logan Motorway.
  • The upgrade proposal will include a new lane in each direction, enhancements to on and off ramps, and installation of the latest smart motorway technology to improve traffic and road safety outcomes.
  • The project proposal is aimed at unclogging one of the South East’s most congested freight routes and improve travel reliability.

The Miles Government will partner with Transurban Queensland to progress planning, market engagement and preliminary procurement of vital road upgrades to the Logan Motorway between Mt Lindesay Highway and Ipswich Motorway, slashing travel times and busting congestion for thousands of motorists.

An estimated 210,000 trips are made on the Logan Motorway every day. This is a critical Motorway to key freight hubs including the Brisbane Airport and the Port of Brisbane.

Transurban Queensland estimates that should the project proposal progress, the Logan West Upgrade will reduce travel times by up to 20 minutes during peak periods from 2031.

There is still a lot of work to do, however some key features of the project proposal to tackle congestion and improve capacity may include:

  • Adding a new lane in each direction along the Logan Motorway between Centenary Motorway and the Mt Lindesay Highway and an additional lane, westbound, between Boundary Road and Formation Street
  • Upgrading the Formation Street Interchange to cater for growing communities and industrial hubs
  • Installing new smart motorway technologies
  • Removal of up to an estimated 6,100 trucks and cars each day from streets in the local area.

Community feedback will be sought to help inform and shape the development of the project proposal and discussions with key industry stakeholders are underway.

Easing the cost of living and delivering relief where possible is what matters to Queenslanders.

Importantly, the Miles Government will not agree to any funding proposal for this upgrade that results in any additional toll increases for ordinary motorists, including cars, utes and motorcycles.

Queensland Government’s consideration of Transurban Queensland’s project proposal will be assessed, ensuring Queensland taxpayers are getting value for money.

If approved, construction is expected to be completed before the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
