I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Corrections expert Liz Moore, who was presented with the Australian Corrections Medal by the Governor of Tasmania, Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner AC, at a small ceremony at Government House yesterday (Monday, 14 September 2020).
Ms Moore’s working life has been dedicated to improving outcomes for offenders in frontline roles in the Corrections system and this award, part of the Australia Day Honours List, is a deserved recognition of her experience, knowledge, skill and commitment to her work.
Ms Moore, currently on secondment as a Policy Officer with the Department of Justice, has worked overseas in the UK prison system and on a nationwide basis as a delegate and membership coordinator for the Probation and Community Corrections Officers’ Association.
She has visited Drug Courts in 20 jurisdictions around the world as part of her study towards a Master of Criminology and Corrections, and was instrumental in introducing reforms and innovations to our Court Mandated Diversion program, which continues to deliver successful outcomes for many Tasmanians.
Outside of her working life, Ms Moore’s legal training led her to being a founding member of the Tasmanian Women’s Legal Service.
The Australian Corrections Medal is presented to one Tasmanian recipient each year and Ms Moore is a very worthy recipient.
