Consider a Council Traineeship

Bass Coast Shire Council is now offering a range of Traineeships and Apprenticeships, which provide an opportunity to gain valuable, practical work experience while being supported to complete relevant qualifications at TAFE.

Hannah Carew completed a Business Administration Traineeship in 2018 and has gone on to a full time position working in administration with Victoria Police ever since.

“Completing my traineeship at Bass Coast was a worthwhile experience, as it enabled me to begin my desired career. The knowledge, skills and experience I gained from coworkers was a great foundation for my current role,” Hannah said.

“I could not be more thankful for the opportunities, experience and support I received and would recommend completing a Traineeship to anyone.”

Shaye Wilson completed a Customer Service Traineeship in 2018 and said it helped to kick-start her career in Local Government.

“I loved studying my Certificate 111 in Business Administration. I found it super interesting and learnt so much,” Shaye said.

“Council has so many career opportunities. Although I started my traineeship with Customer Service, I am now working in the Rates and Revenue Team, something that I didn’t even know existed when I was in school.”

Taylah Tobias completed a Finance Traineeship in 2019 and found it helped her become a more mature person.

“I have learnt how to be professional, how to undertake administration work, how to work in an office environment and so much more,” Taylah said.

“I am now confident that I can venture away from Council and know that I can do whatever I want to do. This Traineeship has taught me to believe in myself and be confident that I can do anything.”

Jakeb Thomas completed a Horticulture Apprenticeship in 2018 and is still working within the Horticulture department.

“I found it was great getting to work and complete my certificate at the same time. I learnt how to use the equipment in a safe environment and always felt supported,” Jakeb said.

Amy Kent completed a Business Administration Traineeship in 2016. Since then she has been successful in obtaining ongoing employment and now holds the position as Council’s Payroll Officer.

“My traineeship had the best possible outcome. I learnt a range of skills that helped me discover what I ultimately wanted to do in a career,” Amy said.

“Bass Coast has shown how much they value their Trainees by investing in them during and after completing their Traineeship, with many moving into permanent roles within the organisation.”

Council’s 2020 Traineeship and Apprenticeship positions will be advertised from Monday, 13 January. Visit
