Consistent Rain & Heat Creates Ideal Conditions for Grass Growth

Shellharbour City Council staff working hard maintain outdoor spaces

Consistent rain coupled with a steady heat cycle has created perfect conditions for grass growth in Shellharbour.

Shellhabour City Council is advising that due to these climate conditions, the City has experienced a rapid growth of grass in our public area.

Our dedicated Council team is working hard to keep more than 450 parks and reserves, 81 sportsfields, and our city’s road medians maintained.

Council aims to mow our green spaces every four to six weeks, with high-use areas such as parks being mowed every three weeks with additional resources.

Shellharbour City Council Mayor Chris Homer asked the community for patience.

“Our Council teams are working hard to keep our parks, reserves and sportfields looking great,” Mayor Homer said.

“We are committed to the mowing program, however, recent weather events have led to a burst of grass growth.

“The program has been delayed with wet weather and humid conditions playing a frustratingly disruptive role. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding.”
