Following the NSW Government’s easing of restrictions, Liverpool City Council can return its construction sites to full capacity site from today.
Construction sites will now be able to operate with a one person per four square metres rule. Workers from the 12 local government areas of concern, including Liverpool, will still only be allowed to leave their area for work if they are vaccinated, and they must continue to register if they are working outside of their own LGA. Worksites where one or more workers do not comply with the COVID-19 vaccination requirements will continue to adhere to 50% capacity.
Liverpool City Council Mayor Wendy Waller said that it is great news for the people of Liverpool, with the
construction industry being one of the largest and most important sectors of the local economy, comprising 24 per cent of all total registered businesses, compared to 16 per cent in NSW.
“With the appropriate safeguards in place, returning construction sites to full capacity will not only lead the way to economic recovery but will see the recommencement of Council’s many construction projects in full force across Liverpool,” Mayor Waller said.
“There are a number of exciting developments taking place in our city, and with the new COVID-19 safe guidelines, Council looks forward to getting back on track to continue to deliver infrastructure that supports the social, economic and recreational needs of our community.”
Construction works are underway at Liverpool Civic Place, with the demolition component complete and excavation works expected to be finished by October 2021. The 11-storey mixed use building will anchor and activate the southern end of Liverpool’s CBD, providing new Council offices and chambers, a public library, childcare, and a public plaza with an underground car park.
“This brings us one step closer to the completion of one of the most significant projects in our city’s history. We cannot wait to bring our community these new public spaces, community facilities and job opportunities for our growing city,” added Mayor Waller.
It is estimated that at the peak of construction Liverpool Civic Place will have 350 workers on site of which 30 roles will be new construction industry graduates and apprentices.
The development of Phillips Park in Lurnea, currently under construction and due to be completed in February 2022, will include an indigenous community garden, multi-purpose community hub, dual soccer/cricket sports oval and half basketball court, a children’s playground, outdoor fitness equipment, picnic facilities and footpath network providing residents with access to new state-of-the-art facilities.
Works to deliver Liverpool’s first Variety Livvi’s Place inclusive play space have commenced, with construction works including the installation of a play space, additional carparking, fencing, landscaping and shade structures expected to be completed and opened to the community in December 2021.
