Construction is underway on the brand new B-12 school at Angle Vale, providing another major jobs boost for the state’s construction industry.
Together with builds at Aldinga and Whyalla, South Australian-based builder Sarah Constructions estimates that well over 1000 jobs will be created over the life of the three projects.
The new school, located on Riverbanks Road, Angle Vale, will accommodate up to 1675 students, including 100 inclusive places for students with a disability and a 75 place children’s centre. It is set to open in Term 1, 2022.
Education Minister John Gardner said the construction jobs boost was critical to the state’s economy at this time.
“We know that South Australia is facing many challenges as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, and the construction of this school will provide a much needed jobs boost for our state,” said Minister Gardner.
“This project forms part of our Government’s record $1.3 billion education capital works investment that is set to underpin thousands of the jobs across the state, while delivering a generational upgrade of schools across South Australia.”
The proposed zone for the high school includes suburbs such as Lewiston to the north, Two Wells and Virginia to the west, and parts of Munno Para West to the east. The primary zone takes in a smaller catchment zone including parts of suburbs such as Munno Para Downs, Hillier, Lewiston, MacDonald Park and Gawler River.

Mark Oliphant College, Gawler and District College and Angle Vale Primary School will see changes to their existing zones under the proposal.
Feedback on the proposed zone is open until Tuesday 19 May and details can be found .
“With population growth in the outer northern suburbs of Adelaide projected to grow substantially in the coming years, this new school will meet new demand and ease enrolment pressure on neighbouring government schools,” said Minister Gardner.
“I know that the local community will be looking forward to watching the progress of this build and to see the land fully transformed and ready for learning in 2022.
“We are confident that local families and the community will embrace this new local education hub that will offer modern, state-of-the-art facilities for their child to learn in.”
John McCollough, Project Company Representative, TESA Education said the site will become a pivotal hub for the community.
“It’s a credit to the team progressing through what has been a highly interactive design process whilst working virtually to enable works to commence onsite on programme,” said Mr McCollough.
“Not only will the new school offer state of the art educational facilities, through partnership with the City of Playford the facility is sure to become a pivotal hub for community based activity for many years to come”
Adrian Esplin, CEO, Sarah Constructions said the project was on track for success.
“It’s fantastic to break ground on the Angle Vale Schools PPP project. The collaborative foundation between all TESA members and State has this project well on track for success,” said Mr Esplin.
“Our people are thrilled to be working on such a bespoke, innovative education project, setting a new benchmark for education facilities in the State.
“The northern region is very important to our business, with the majority of trade contractors, suppliers and well as our staff located in this region. Our people will feel a strong connectivity to this project, ensuring a quality of delivery that will stand for future generations.”
The Education Department recently reached a formal agreement with the City of Playford to share some facilities at the school with the council, including sporting fields and all-weather courts, cementing the new school as a community hub for local families.
