City of Darwin’s Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre (CAALC) project has now entered its construction phase.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said excavation had started following the completion of demolition of the old Casuarina swimming pool.
“When the Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre is completed by the end of 2024, we will have delivered the people of Darwin a facility which will help enhance their lifestyle,” Mr Vatskalis said.
“Ultimately, the project will deliver the Darwin public a total of 2500 square metres of community pool space.”
While construction is underway at Casuarina, in Italy, engineering and fabrication will continue on the 50-metre and 25-metre Learn to Swim Myrtha pools.
In addition to the 50- and 25-metre pools, the CAALC will also feature a resort-style pool.
With the commencement of the project’s construction phase, there will be an increase in truck movement on the CAALC site, with about 16 trucks a day entering and leaving the site each day.
Residents are urged to heed traffic management signage and instruction, and to take care when travelling in the area.
