Perth’s southern suburbs will soon have a new modern fire station to serve the needs of the growing Cockburn community.
The exciting new chapter for firefighting was marked with a sod turning ceremony this morning at the North Lake Road site, where it was announced that Osborne Park-based EMCO Building will start construction this month.
The station will serve as the new home for firefighters from Success Fire and Rescue Service who have been involved in the design process throughout, ensuring the new station will meet their current and future needs.
Success Fire and Rescue Service firefighters have been working from the Cockburn Volunteer Emergency Services Complex following their relocation in 2015.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services closed the former Success Fire Station on Hammond Road as a precautionary measure due to possible environmental and health concerns.
The new built-for-purpose station will feature three vehicle bays, an indoor-outdoor gym and a post-incident wash-down area with capacity for expansion to accommodate population growth in the area.
The station’s central location with easy access to major arterial roads will result in faster response times for the community.
Site works are expected to begin in mid-March and Cockburn Fire Station is scheduled to open early next year.
As stated by Emergency Services Minister Francis Logan:
“The modern Cockburn Fire Station will serve as a new home for the Success Fire and Rescue Service firefighters who have been professionally protecting the community from their temporary base at Cockburn Volunteer Emergency Services Complex.
“The station has been designed to meet the current demands and needs of the community, while being future-proofed to accommodate future population growth and changes to the urban landscape of Cockburn and surrounding areas.
“The Government has invested $11 million from the Emergency Services Levy to build a purpose-built fire station that will better equip our local firefighters and better serve our local community.”
