The Morrison Government is inviting non-government stakeholders to have their say on a public consultation paper released today as part of its commitment to prevent and respond to child sexual abuse.
The paper released by the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Office for Child Safety seeks feedback on a proposed Advisory Group intended to provide regular input to support the design, implementation and evaluation of the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Strategy to Prevent and Respond to Child Sexual Abuse 2021-2030 (the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Strategy).
Minister Assisting the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Ben Morton, said we need to deliver the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Strategy in a way that meets the diverse needs of all Australians.
“It’s important we get this right, so we can deliver real protections for Australian children, and better support to victims and survivors,” Minister Morton said.
“A key way we do this is through the proposed Advisory Group. I invite feedback from all walks of life, including victims and survivors of child sexual abuse and their advocates, children and young people and their support networks, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and people with disability.”
The outlines the proposed model, priority groups, and consultation questions to guide feedback.
“We are committed to continuous consultation with stakeholders over the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Strategy’s lifetime,” Minister Morton said.
“The proposed Advisory Group will be one of several ways stakeholders will be involved.
The ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Strategy is a 10-year, whole-of-nation framework recommended by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. It is the first of its kind in Australia and establishes a coordinated, nationally consistent approach to preventing and better responding to child sexual abuse in all settings.
