Consultation open for locomotive and windmill relocation

The community is being asked to have a say on the relocation sites for the locomotive and windmill within the Pioneer Settlement.

At its meeting in July Councillors resolved to proceed with the construction of the Our Place building at site option 1 inside the Pioneer Settlement.

The decision requires the retention of the windmill and locomotive on the Pioneer Settlement grounds and that an investigation of the required repair works for the Pental Island Bridge is undertaken.

Mayor Bill Moar said Council is looking for input from the community to determine the best location within the Settlement for these iconic pieces of history.

“Due to current social distancing requirements and given the introduction of Stage 3 restrictions from Wednesday 5 August, consultation will be taking place online,” he said.

“Anyone who wants to have a say can have a say via our online survey.

“If you or someone you know doesn’t have internet access, or doesn’t feel comfortable using the internet to view plans and designs, please give Council a call and we will make sure you can be involved,” he added.

Feedback can also be provided by contacting Our Place Project Managers Candis Fraser or Dione Heppell on 5036 2333 from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday or via webchat.

Consultation will be open from Monday 3 August to Monday 10 August 2020 at 4pm.

Community feedback will be collated and shared with Councillors, who are expected to make a final decision in their August meeting.
